Answers to the Why Is It So Hard to Lose Weight Question
Why is it so hard to lose weight? If you want to learn the truth about weight loss, then you need to look at the reasons behind your weight gain or loss. Everyone struggles with weight loss at one time or another. However, many of us are in denial of the fact that we do actually have a problem.
The short answer to the question is quite simple: It is hard to lose weight and it usually takes a commitment to change it, both physically and mentally. There are several contributing factors to why you gain weight and why you lose it, and these include: food cravings, eating too much or too little. Excess stress, anxiety, depression, or even worrying about the future. All-or-nothing thinking, low energy levels, bingeing on food, not exercising, or just not having a positive all-or-nothing attitude.
According to the Emotional Intelligence Society, people who have an all-or-nothing attitude have a serious problem with controlling their cravings and a severe lack of confidence. Their thought process is constantly interrupted by the fear of food cravings and that makes it extremely difficult to make proper food choices. The lack of self-confidence is also manifested inactivity. People with an all-or-nothing attitude are constantly reactive, meaning they do not put any efforts into their lives.
Eating too much is also hard. This is especially true for those people who eat the same type of food day after day. For example, a thin person may eat ice cream or chocolate every day. However, the same individual cannot eat ice cream or chocolate every day if he wants to keep his weight in check.
Low self-esteem can also be contributed to an all-or-nothing attitude. Some individuals have the belief that they are nothing and deserve whatever they want, including having no self-control or even being able to control themselves. Therefore, they usually choose foods that are high in sugar and fat instead of choosing foods that are low in calories. These people usually have no idea how dieting and nutrition works and therefore, they continue to eat this way without realizing how much weight they are losing.
It is important to learn that all-or-nothing attitudes are irrational and do not lead to successful or sustainable weight loss. In fact, these attitudes do more harm than good. When people have a negative all-or-nothing attitude, they become stressed and depressed, which is one of the reasons why they gain weight in the first place. Thus, all-or-nothing thinking patterns must be changed.
The first step to changing a negative all-or-nothing attitude towards dieting and nutrition is to admit that you do indeed need to diet and you do in fact need to lose weight. Next, you have to create some mental strategies on how you will get rid of your unwanted weight. Do not just rely on eating healthy and exercising. You really need to get outside and move around as often as possible. Even walking around the block a few times during the day is highly recommended.
Why is it so hard to lose weight? Because people with all-or-nothing attitudes are doing more harm to themselves than good. They are denying themselves the joy that comes with living a healthy lifestyle. A healthy and positive attitude is the first step to changing all-or-nothing attitudes. With this attitude, you will find it easier to make decisions and stick to them.
As mentioned earlier, people with all-or-nothing attitudes are doing more harm than good. When a person loses the all-or-nothing attitude they are usually left with not only a poor self-image but also more money. These people often use their newfound wealth to feed all-or-nothing attitudes.
What's the solution to dealing with all-or-nothing attitudes? It's very simple, start taking steps to lose weight. If all-or-nothing thinking is keeping you from eating healthy food, start by thinking about food in terms of reward value. Eat healthy food, because you will get a small reward, but over time the reward will be bigger. It can be frustrating dealing with an all-or-nothing attitude. But don't give up. You CAN and should lose weight and be happy about it.
