Why Is It So Hard to Lose Weight?
Have you ever wondered why is it so hard to lose weight? It's easy to look around and see people succeeding and people failing. Weight loss is not a race that you win or lose. You either lose or you lose and nothing in between. Losing weight is a journey. Here are some of the reasons why it is so difficult to lose weight.
All-or-nothing mindset: When you lose weight, you want to lose weight. However, if you have a long-term mindset, then all you can think about is how to get back to where you started and keep going. This is a hard fact, but this too is often the hard part to accept (and even adjust). If you approach to weight loss as a "one-time-only-achievement" journey, then you will likely not make it past year five. If you approach losing weight as an "all-or-nothing" endeavor, then you won't be able to make it past month one.
All-or-nothing mindset also gets in the way when you are attempting weight loss on your own. If you have a lot of excuses, or if you just plain do not have the motivation/energy, then going on a diet can be extremely challenging. A better option would be to get help from a reputable weight loss coach, or to enroll in a weight loss camp or fitness center. These are a few of the reasons why is it so hard to lose weight.
Lack of motivation and/or energy to stick with any weight loss plan. This is perhaps the most common reason for not sticking with a weight loss plan or diet. You will find that you simply don't have the energy to make it through one meal, let alone one day. If you truly want to reach your goals, then you need to make an all-or-nothing commitment to your weight loss plan and diet.
Another reason why is it so hard to lose weight is because you truly believe that you cannot succeed. You may have tried numerous diets and/or weight loss programs, and you have been unable to lose weight despite your best efforts. If this sounds like you, then you have reached the conclusion that you just are destined to be overweight for life. Your all-or-nothing mindset causes you to believe that there is no way to lose weight and keep it off. You have convinced yourself that all-or-nothing thinking is rational and necessary for your success.
The only way for you to get beyond your all-or-nothing mindset and get to your goal of losing weight is to become a minimalist. A minimalist is someone who is extremely selective about what they eat and how much they eat. A minimalist knows that eating everything in sight is not going to produce the desired weight loss and has made the choice to not indulge in unhealthy foods in an effort to be healthier and live longer.
A minimalist has chosen to live in an all-or-nothing lifestyle, which makes it easier for them to achieve their weight loss goals. All-or-nothing thinking makes it hard for even the most dedicated person to see progress with their weight loss program. Minimizing one's lifestyle to that of a "normal" individual will increase the chances of reaching your goals quicker because you will be seeing small positive changes in your life instead of just a void. By living an all-or-nothing approach to life, the only thing you will see change is the fact that you are eating less and feeling better. This is because the change you make will have an impact on your health and you will have made the choice to live healthier.
As with all things in life, if you choose to take on an all-or-nothing attitude when it comes to your weight loss efforts you will probably not see great results. People who have adopted an all-or-nothing mindset tend to get discouraged very easily. They soon begin to think that it is impossible to lose weight and will probably give up. If you want to reach your goals and lose weight, it is important that you start with yourself and break your all-or-nothing mindset. Only then can you truly enjoy the journey of weight loss and live your life in the knowledge that you have made a real, lasting change for the better.
